AN ONLINE EDUCATION EVENT
In ANZGOG’s ongoing effort to offer educational opportunities to Fellows, Trainees, Registrars, and early career clinicians, ANZGOG will be conducting an online Preceptorship focused on Targeting Molecular Pathways in Gynaecological Cancer.
When?
Friday 29 November 2024| 1.00pm – 4.00pm (AEDT)
Saturday 30 November 2024 | 10.00am – 12.30pm (AEDT)
The Preceptorship 2024 learning objectives are:
- Understand the rationale for the current recommendations for molecular testing in high-grade serous ovarian cancer.
- Understanding the molecular subtypes of endometrial cancer and their implications for management.
- Learning the common molecular alterations of rarer ovarian cancer histological subtypes particularly focusing on LGSOC and mucinous.
- Learn about emerging molecular pathways being targeted in gynaecological cancers.
“The preceptorships foster an interdisciplinary approach to cancer management, one that allows clinicians to interact with, and learn from, one another. They are an amazing opportunity to refine one’s knowledge but are also invaluable in building connections and partnerships with colleagues and seniors. Strongly recommended!”
Dr Michael Krasovitsky, Medical Oncologist, past attendee
Meet the Co-Chairs of the Preceptorship 2024
Professor Anna DeFazio AM heads the Gynaecological Oncology Research Group at Westmead Hospital and the Westmead Institute for Medical Research. She holds the Sydney-West Chair of Translational Cancer Research at the University of Sydney and is the Convenor of the University of Sydney Cancer Research Network. Anna is the Director of Sydney Cancer Partners and a leader in the ovarian cancer stream of the Daffodil Centre. In addition, Anna is lead investigator on INOVATe, a multi-site translational research program in NSW, linking molecular profiling and clinical trials for precision medicine in ovarian cancer.
Anna is a member of the ANZGOG Research Advisory Committee, the ANZGOG Ovarian Tumour Type Working Group and the OASIS Steering Committee, and is Chair of the Translational-ANZGOG Steering Committee.
Dr George Au-Yeung is a clinician-researcher at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and has research interests in molecular biology of ovarian cancer as well as running novel biomarker driven clinical trials and translational research. He completed his PhD in Professor David Bowtell’s laboratory, investigating novel therapeutic strategies for Cyclin E1 amplified high grade serous ovarian cancer, a subset of ovarian cancers that behave aggressively and lack treatment options.
He is now a full-time medical oncologist at Peter Mac, working across the Gynae-Oncology and Melanoma service, and is co-Deputy Director of Medical Oncology. He is an active member of ANZGOG as a member of the RAC, the Deputy Chair of the OASIS Steering Committee and a member of the cervix/vaginal/vulva Tumour Working Group.

ANZGOG’s Endometrial Cancer Preceptorship Testimonials:
“The ANZGOG Endometrial Cancer Preceptorship was a fantastic learning experience. The process of researching a topic, synthesising information and presenting this with helpful and engaged supervisors was invaluable. In addition, watching others’ presentations in combination with the resources has given a great overview of the topic. Would recommend to anyone working in the field.”
Monica McGauran, Fellow, Gynaecological Oncology
“The ANZGOG 2022 Endometrial Preceptorship was an excellent experience. The preceptorship gave us the opportunity to review the evidence of present and emerging treatment options for patients with endometrial cancer, and will help with helping me make decisions and providing optimal patient care. My preceptor was knowledgeable and prompt with the content that we were assigned. I would recommend this preceptorship to my peers.”
Eric Fong, Registrar, Radiation Oncology
“The ANZGOG endometrial cancer preceptorship provided an amazing opportunity to learn from and collaborate with trainees and senior colleagues from a range of sub-specialities. It was an extremely worthwhile experience that helped me refine my knowledge and build confidence in management approaches and presentation skills.”
Elizabeth Driscoll, Trainee, Medical Oncology
“I found the ANZGOG Preceptorship to be a well-organised educational experience connecting early career trainees with experienced preceptors. Through my participation, I developed knowledge about my topic far beyond what I could have achieved by reading studies on my own. Several studies I reviewed were discussed from a different vantage point by other preceptorship pairs which only improved my understanding of landmark studies on endometrial cancer. I learned a lot through multidisciplinary discussions following each presentation. I would highly recommend this to all.”
Jason Phung, Registrar, Gynaecological Oncology
