ANZGOG Member Prof Anna De Fazio – Poidevin has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day list which was announced by the Governor-General today, January 26.

Prof De Fazio AM has been recognised for her significant service to medicine, particularly cancer research. The Australian Honours and Awards system recognises the outstanding service and contributions of Australians. Recipients come from right across the country and from all walks of life. While some are well-known, the majority are unsung heroes.

Prof Anna De Fazio AM is a renowned translational researcher who heads the Gynaecological Oncology Research Laboratory at the Centre for Cancer Research, the Westmead Institute for Medical Research. Anna holds the position of Sydney-West Chair in Translational Cancer Research, at the University of Sydney, at Westmead Hospital, and has a long-standing commitment to translational research with an emphasis on improving treatment outcomes for women with ovarian cancer.

She is Chair of ANZGOG’s TR-ANZGOG Steering Committee, a translational research initiative that will add value to important clinical trials in women with gynaecological cancers by supporting the collection and use of biospecimens for further research.

At ANZGOG, Prof DeFazio has been instrumental in developing our translational arm, TR-ANZGOG, chairing its Steering Committee, ensuring that precious samples from women will be available for more cutting-edge research than ever before. She has been a leader of the Australian Ovarian Cancer Study (AOCS), Australia’s premier ovarian cancer cohort study. Prof De Fazio AM is also a member of ANZGOG’s Research Advisory Committee, Ovarian Tumour Type Working Group and OASIS Steering Committee, and has been an influential figure in ANZGOG’s membership for many years.
